Your Guide to Spring Cleaning

The hardest part about spring cleaning may be deciding where to start. If you’re anything like the typical American, then you’ve got a lot of cleaning to do and not a whole lot of time to do it. This short guide is our attempt to motivate you by making the bitter spring-cleaning pill just a little easier to swallow. Organize and Prioritize The first thing you can do to make spring cleaning easier is to decide what you want to do and when you want to do it. But, how do you do that? No problem: Just set your sights on the most important cleaning task that you have that you know you have the tools and time to do. That’s the most important part. Pie-in-the-sky pronouncements (“This year I’m definitely going to clean the basement!”) do no good if you don’t have the time and equipment to complete the job. Plan and Prepare What’s the one thing that most frequently derails cleaning plans? That’s right: distraction. Avoid this by prepping and planning ahead. Stock up on your supplies at a time well before cleaning day arrives. That way, when the time comes to get down to business you won’t have to interrupt your progress by running to the store. The store is where cleaning projects go to die. You leave to go pick up some cleaning products and the next thing you know you’ve got a soft pretzel in your hand as you wander through the pet shop looking at puppies. Stick to the plan! Music and Munchies Cleaning doesn’t have to be a drag. Make it a party by turning up the tunes and fixing yourself a snack selection that will keep you energized and give you a little motivation to keep movin’ and groovin’. If you’ve got really awesome friends, you may even want to think about inviting them over for cleaning and cocktails. Make music, snacks and drinks available for all and make short work of big jobs - kind of like a barn raising, but way easier. Mind Games and Manipulation If none of this works, there’s one other thing you can try that is sure to get you in a cleaning mood: Invite people to a classy party at your house. Sometimes we need a reason beyond the satisfaction of cleanliness to do the spring cleaning we don’t want to do. If you want your house to look nice, induce action through social pressure by inviting a bunch of people to your house that you wouldn’t mind impressing. ATGStores.com hopes these ideas help you with your spring cleaning this year.
