Top 6 Easiest Labor Day 'Chores'
Labor Day weekend is a great time to relax, get away from it all and prep for the onset of cooler weather, but there are those among us who might feel the teeniest bit guilty if we don’t get at least one chore done during our downtime.

To help out, we’ve compiled a list of easy Labor Day duties that, once completed, will help you fully enjoy the weekend without getting bogged down in a full-blown project.

1. Pressure wash the deck.

The hardest part about this chore is probably going to be finding a pressure washer. You can rent or buy, but once you have it the rest is pretty easy.

The trick is getting the pressure right for the type of wood you’re cleaning. Soft woods like pine and cedar should be cleaned at a lower pressure; around 500-600 psi is good. Harder woods may require a higher psi, but either way you’ll want to make sure to hold the nozzle at least 12 inches from the surface to avoid damaging the wood.

2. Put up a bird feeder.

You know you’ve been meaning to do it for years. Now is the perfect time – when you can sit on the porch and watch as the crows and squirrels come flocking to your yard and … wait.

No, just kidding. If you buy the right seed and choose the right kind of feeder for the birds in your region you can create a haven for beautiful birds right in your own back yard.

3. Mount a new hose holder.

You’ve been using that hose all summer and so it seems okay that it’s piled in a jumble by the side of the house, but there will come a time when that will start to irritate you.

Get a jump on it by mounting a classy hose holder or hose reel. It’s super easy to do and will improve the look of your newly manicured lawn.

4. Replace that burnt-out bulb.

The porch is a de facto booby trap and the garage hasn’t been navigable after sundown for eight months. All it takes is a little twist (squeak squeak squeak!) and a little turn (squick squick squick!) and all of a sudden you’re a hero.

Now, you can kick back in that hammock feeling like you did something.

5. Introduce yourself to neighbors you don’t know.

That’s right. Home improvement doesn’t stop at bird feeders and hose holders. As George Costanza, of Seinfield fame, would exclaim, “You know, we’re living in a society!”

It takes work, and we must all do our part – sometimes even on holiday weekends.

6. Hang a hammock.

Do this one last, and enjoy every second of it. Have a great Labor Day, everyone.
