Impress Dad with 10 Fun Father’s Day Activities

It probably goes without saying that most dads look forward to sweet Father’s Day gifts – and a creative gift is always a good idea – but what really impresses are the thoughtful ways we find to spend more time with our fathers.

Every dad is different, but guys in general are a restless lot and they like to have things to do. So, one idea for Father’s Day is to find an activity they love (or maybe have always wanted to try) and join them on the adventure.

Here are some ideas:

1. Bowling

Seriously, what guy doesn’t like bowling? It may not be as exotic as hang gliding in the Andes, but it’s affordable, fun and the whole family can join. And, for a lot of dads, that’s right up their alley.

2. Playing Catch

For whatever reason, dads like catching things and then throwing them back – not unlike fishing, which is further down on this list.

3. Sightseeing

Has your dad ever said, “Man, I’d like to see that someday.” Well, take him to go see it, even if it’s just a little local jaunt. He’ll be impressed you remembered.

4. Tie Shopping

This is a fun jab at the worst gift ever. Only newish dads (kind of) like getting ties as gifts, but tie wearers do like to pick them out, so cutting out the guesswork can be a lot of fun.

5. Video Gaming

Dads of a certain age today grew up with video games, but it often winds up being a sad, solitary activity relegated to the “man cave.” Take pops out for pizza and to the arcade, and watch his eyes light up like the pinball machines of yore.

6. Go-Kart Racing

“Boys will be boys” – it’s a saying that never gets any less true, especially when it comes to driving things with really loud motors really, really fast. Get it out of his system with a trip to the track.

7. Fishing

Sometimes it seems like it’s just too easy. Neither of you even have to catch anything. Just sit there, cast every once in a while, sip on something tasty and practice your story about “the one that got away.”

8. Barbecuing

Do you have a dad? If so, say these magic words: “Dad, I want to grill with you.” You literally can’t buy a gift better than these words.

9. Camping

Organize a camping trip for the dad in your life. Visit one of his favorite places, or strike out on a new adventure. Either way, everyone wins.

10. Relaxing

Father’s Day is on a Sunday, and you know what they say about Sunday: It’s a good day to rest. And, any plan that ends with a dad in a hammock is a fine plan, indeed.

Whether you’re getting the gift or giving the gift, we hope you have a wonderful Father’s Day.
