‘Glamping’ and Urban Camping

It’s fair to assume that camping isn’t for everyone. Between the bugs, the bears and the lack of bathrooms things can get a little dicey out there in the wide-open nowhere. Good news! There are two alternatives to roughing it called “glamping” (aka glamour camping) and urban camping that are gaining in popularity. Campers who prefer these approaches to outdoor adventure are all about enjoying the wilderness, only without taking it on the chin from Mother Nature. Camping purists will no doubt turn their frostbitten noses up at both of these namby-pamby activities, which is part of their rugged charm. There is much to be said for pushing the body to its limits as you cling to a cliff face, and camping with a view of the city skyline may seem like cheating to some. Many of these temporary urban campsites are springing up in large metro areas and offer urbanites a chance to get some fresh air without leaving the city limits. Glamping, on the other hand, is more about taking the comforts of home into the backcountry, or at least a few hundred yards into the front country. Oddly, glamping isn’t commonly associated with RV travel or “car camping,” perhaps because there’s nothing glamorous about sleeping in the backseat of a Subaru in a KOA campground parking lot. Until then, when it comes to good gear it’s likely better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. ATGStores.com welcomes you to share your most memorable camping experiences, even if you never made it past the backyard fence.
