If you haven’t heard, websites like Houzz and Pinterest are great places to get inspiration for projects like home bars, but why not just go to the tippy-top of the list when you design your perfect bar?

That’s what we decided to do. We wanted to see what it would be like to merge the coolest features of the coolest bars around the world into one epic home bar – but one you could actually build. So, we tried to be reasonable.

A World-Class Wood Bar

The first thing you’re gonna need is the actual bar, and what better example than one of the oldest in the world, at the Herberg Vlissinghe in Bruges, Belgium, est. 1515.

As you’ll note, the bar is a modest affair and one like you’d find in your basement, which is one reason why this popular Belgian café stands the test of time.

Comfy Bar Seating

Saying you’ve found the world’s most comfortable bar – or bar stool – is a statement fraught with subjectivity. There are tons of amazing bars that don't have pool tables, like the Hemingway Bar in Prague, Czech Republic, and your bar may take after one of them. Darts, on the other hand, are always a nice addition ...

A Top-Shelf Selection

For most, this is something that is acquired over time. Spirits aren’t cheap, and life’s too short to futz around with paint remover.

We got some tips on what to stock from Canon in Seattle, Washington, where whiskeys are favored and owner Jamie Boudreau calls the selection “arguably the largest spirit program in the world.”

Good Friends

No bar is complete without a round of friendly faces. A good drink is hardly a magical thing when it’s not accompanied by good stories, good music and the making of wonderful memories.

Here’s a toast to your new bar – may it be among the greatest in the world!
