Even worse than cooties, though, is the rising cost of education.</br></br><strong>Actual Education Costs, Deconstructed</strong></br></br>Increased tuition rates and living costs paired with school budget cuts and reductions in financial aid programs have crossed paths to create what the <a title="National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education" href="http://www.highereducation.org/" target="_blank">National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education</a> is calling “the worst fiscal news for public higher education institutions and their students in at least a decade.”</br></br>That sounds pretty bad, but the math is even worse. Actual numbers from the <a title="Institute of Education Sciences" href="http://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=76" target="_blank">Institute of Education Sciences</a> shows us that public-school undergraduate tuition (including room, board and fees) increased 40% between 2001 and 2012, and 28% for private undergraduate tuition <em>– after adjustment for inflation</em>.</br></br>To quickly illustrate, here’s a comparison in current dollars for one year of full-time out-of-state tuition at a 4-year public school:</br></br><strong>- 2001-02:</strong> $13,639</br><strong>- 2011-12:</strong> $23,066</br></br>This should shock and alarm you.</br></br><strong>Every Little Bit Helps</strong></br></br>This is one reason why we’re introducing the <a title="ATGStores.com Student Discount Program" href="http://www.atgstores.com/promotions/studentdiscount.aspx" target="_blank">ATGStores.com Student Discount program</a>, which offers students a 10% site-wide discount on all purchases, with limited manufacturer limitations.</br></br>Anyone currently enrolled in school may sign up for the program using their “.edu” student email address.
