8 Best Alternative Uses for Garages (Part II)

Yesterday, we talked about four popular DIY garage renovation ideas, and if you can't guess what they are you can read about them here. Today, we're going to finish up our list with some more great garage projects.

After all, why keep your car in it when you could turn it into one of these awesome things?

5. Rumpus Rooms

Taking the staycation in a different direction, it may be easier to send the kids packing than the other way around. It’s as easy as swapping out the sharp objects for a TV, a few bean bags and some video games.

It’s hard to say, but a garage-turned-rec room may just be far enough away to convince you they’re at camp.

6. Craft Rooms

If you’re anything like the typical American with a garage, it’s probably well on its way to becoming a craft room already. Your tool collection needs a purpose, and a little renovation can provide the motivation needed to start crafting.

Clean out a corner, add some task lighting and a work desk, and the next thing you know you’ll be a craft master.

7. Home Offices

One might think that a garage is a terrible place for a home office, but it can work quite well with a couple new walls and some sound-dampening material.

Or, if you don’t want to invest in the time it takes to fully renovate, you can use office partitions to create a cube within a cube – perhaps not ideal, but maybe better than trying to get work done at the kitchen table.

8. Home Theaters

A garage is often the perfect place to set up a home theater because they usually have large, white walls that make for a beautiful projection surface.

All you need to do is set up the projector, which you can keep portable or mount on the ceiling so it’s always there, ready to show your favorite flick after you’ve moved the car to the curb.

And so Much More ...

These are just some of the more popular ideas, of course. There are many more ways to convert your garage, and you’re just a few DIY projects away from a value-boosting home renovation.
