6 Floor-to-Ceiling DIY Ideas

Let’s say you want to spruce up an entire wall, but wallpaper isn’t your first choice – you may wander what other options you can explore that cover the space from floor to ceiling.

Fortunately, there are all kinds of creative ways to tackle the project that don’t involve the typical frame collection (not that there’s anything wrong with a wild gallery wall). Here are six ideas to get you started:

1. Shelving

Floor-to-ceiling shelving looks awesome and is relatively easy to install – as a premade unit or as a DIY project – but the trick is how you intend to access the upper shelves.

This is where the cool ladder on wheels might come into the mix, but if it does you may want some pro tips on that DIY. Falling off your rocker might be okay, but a ladder? Not so much.

2. Shiplap

Shiplap looks kind of like clapboard, except that the board edges are flush instead of overlapping. And, it’s really easy to fake indoors for a cool maritime look.

3. Decals

Wall decals are fun, removable, inexpensive and fun for an experiment if you want to try something new. Plus, they come in all kinds of designs, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find a theme that suits your style.

These are also easy to pair with other ideas, so you don’t have to remain committed to decals alone.

4. Wall Art

Size is a huge factor (no pun intended) when it comes to wall art. Go small and you’ve got a gallery wall; go big and you’ve got a floor-to-ceiling museum installation.

Or, you can lean big art against the wall; if it’s big enough it won’t look like it’s waiting to be hung.

5. Bamboo

Whether faux or for real, a floor-to-ceiling bamboo installation lends Polynesian punch to any room. Bamboo is pretty easy to come by (up here in the Pacific Northwest, people will pay you to take it if you cut it down), and can be used in all sorts of creative ways.

Hang it horizontally, perpendicularly, in a parquet pattern or even woven. Then hang island décor on it for additional flair.

6. Textile Installation

Textile installations are included here because it’s often not hard to find one, or even DIY one, on the floor-to-ceiling scale. They come in all colors and patterns, and if you don’t find the perfect one you can just make it.

Enjoy experimenting with these floor-to-ceiling décor ideas; maybe they’ll inspire something totally new!
