5 Best (Realistic) New Year’s Resolutions for 2016

New Year’s resolutions remain a stalwart tradition in many families and circles of friends in the U.S., followed most closely by the tradition of breaking those resolutions – sometimes mere hours after the ball drops.

And, who can blame us? We’re Americans, and we’re nothing if not an ambitious lot. We aim high, especially when it comes to our goals for the future.

This year is no different, though in 2016 we wanted to add a few things to the list that are both possible and positive.

1. Watch less Netflix.

A 2015 study conducted by TiVo found that 9 out of 10 people binge-watch TV (and, if you’re that one person who doesn’t, “binge-watching” means watching hours of a particular TV program, because now you can do that without commercial interruption).

Needless to say, it’s a lot of TV. So, instead of saying we’ll exercise more, we thought it’d be easier to try and shave a couple hours off our weekend binge routine.

2. Watch a little more Netflix.

Some people work too much! And, since everyone else is binge-watching TV, the quickest way to reconnect with them may be to catch up on the shows they're watching while you're stuck in the office.

3. Spend time with family.

When we add up all the days we spend working and doing other things, sometimes it becomes all too clear that we’re not spending enough QT with the family.

This might be family far away, or the family that’s living right here at home. Either way, we’d like to make more time for them, even if we’re just watching Netflix together.

4. Meet someone new.

We are enriched by those around us, but it's often hard to add someone new to our circle of friends. And, sometimes it’s hard to try; we come to expect great things like this to “just happen.”

Sometimes, though, it’s as easy as saying “yes” to an invitation to go do something new … instead of watching Netflix …

5. Enjoy the little things.

It’s as simple as that. Have a great New Year, and a wonderful start to 2016.
