4 Things Making Your Bathroom Filthy
Cleaning the bathroom is like making your bed in that after just one day you have to do it all over again – but what if there were steps you could take to keep your bathroom from getting so dirty so dang fast?

It’s all about knowing the source of the grime and nipping it in the bud. Fortunately, for most bathrooms the same culprits are to blame. Let’s investigate, and then eliminate.

1. Hair

Hair, hair everywhere! Even if you’re not Rapunzel, your bathroom is probably clogged with hair. How do you combat such a persistent foe?

The same way you combat dirty dishes – by not letting it rest. Mount a handheld vacuum in the bathroom and save yourself a world of deep-cleaning pain.

2. Water Vapor / Moisture

Who doesn’t love a hot shower? Studies show there’s a 70 percent chance a hot shower will be the best thing that happens to you on any given day.

Not really, but they are awesome – except for all the moisture they leave hanging around. That’s a breeding ground for mold and mildew, but there are a few things you can do:

- Install and use a bathroom exhaust fan to keep air circulating during and after your shower.
- Clean said fan on a regular basis.
- Give your shower a quick squeegee when you’re done.
- Use an after-shower spray (even a cheap homemade version) to combat yucky growth.

3. Soap Residue

It’s ironic that something designed to keep things clean can make a bathroom so messy. But, that’s how soap works. Every luxury comes with a price.

You can save cleaning time, though, by rinsing off soapy surfaces as you go. If you wait, the residue will take longer to clean, so it’s best to wipe it up before it accumulates.

4. Towel Lint

We’ve saved the most insidious culprit for last – you may not realize it, but your bath towels (especially the new ones!) are filling your bathroom full of lint, sometimes even after numerous washings.

The solution? Buy linen, bamboo or rayon towels that will shed less than cotton. Or, if you do buy cotton, go for the good stuff, which is usually woven with longer fibers that are more tightly braided, which results in less shedding.

Good luck keeping your bathroom cleaner, longer!
