4 Easy Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

Happy Earth Day, everyone! Now, we know what you’re thinking, because we’re thinking pretty much the same thing – it’s about time The Man made this a federal holiday so we can save the planet in proper style. Just think of all the eco-friendliness that would flow from a stroke of the mighty legislative pen:

Fewer people driving to work

Fewer computers/machines being turned on

Fewer buildings being lit up for the day

The list is practically endless. BUT, since it’ll be a cold day in Miami before that happens, we’ll have to think of some other easy ways to go green. That’s right – easy. We know inconvenience is the enemy of an eco-friendlier lifestyle, so we want to focus on some simple things you can do today to save the world. Baby steps, folks. Baby steps! Pack Your Lunch Yep, packing your lunch qualifies as an Earth Day activity. Eating out automatically puts you in a stream of commerce that often heavily taxes the planet. The packaging, processing and promotion that goes into the typical restaurant meal usually uses up more resources than when you brown bag it, especially if you use a lunch pail. Unplug Some Devices You may have heard a rumor that devices left plugged in still use energy. Well, that’s no urban legend and you can do your part by unplugging them – at least for today. The phenomenon is known as “idle current” and is natural among all devices, so the more you unplug the more you contribute to the Earth Day effort. Eat Vegetarian One day without meat won’t kill you! Of course, this is not an indictment of carnivores or an attack on livestock farmers. Food is yummy and all diets are created equal, but the simple fact is that producing meat takes up a lot of resources. One less pastrami on rye may seem like a small contribution, but it can make a difference for the environment (and your body, as a bonus). Recycle Something We’re not talking about the establishment of a full-on EPA-sanctioned operation – just one little thing popped into a recycling bin. If you already recycle at home, maybe you can try it at work. Or, if you recycle everywhere maybe you can pick up a piece of trash and deposit it in a receptacle. It’s a sliding scale. Remember: every little bit helps. ATGStores.com hopes you have an awesome Earth Day and that you get a chance to do a little something to help keep things green.
