The sun is shining longer and the weather is getting warmer, which means it’s time to start thinking about sprucing up for spring – and what better place to start than with our window décor?
Windows are décor items in themselves. They frame our view on the world from the inside and add character to our homes on the outside, and there are plenty of ways to decorate in both places.
Let’s look at a few.
1. Clean them.
You may be surprised how much better a window will look when it’s clean, inside and out.
2. Update your curtains/blinds/valances.
As far as ideas go, it’s low-hanging fruit, but it’s not exactly inexpensive low-hanging fruit. Try this only if your current design is really ready for replacement.
3. Add glass decals.
Far from tacky, today’s glass decals come in all kinds of removable or permanent designs, and can be used for décor, enhanced privacy or both.
4. Trim encroaching shrubs and foliage.
Improve your view, let in more light and neaten up your outdoor look by trimming up the landscaping near your windows.
5. Hang decorative (or functional) shutters.
Shutters come in all different kinds of design and styles, and can add serious curb appeal to your home. Plus, they can be surprisingly affordable if you’re not looking for the five-star option.
6. Paint your window trim.
This goes for the inside and the outside, and can completely change the look of your home and your space. The best part: It doesn’t take a whole lot of paint, and is fairly easy to fix if you don’t like it.
7. Pick a cute window ornament.
Sun catchers are affordable ways to add a little dazzle to your windows, and make for really fun DIY projects.
8. Install a window planter.
Window planters are usually mounted on the outside, but if you have a wide sill you can also create an indoor area for plants that may be more susceptible to the elements.
9. Hang a bird feeder.
Treat your feathered friends to a little food and they’ll treat you to a nature show – right outside your window! You can even try a window-mounted design if you don’t want to hang one.
10. Update your holdbacks, rods and other hardware.
Curtain rods, rings, holdbacks and finials are a great way to add flair without a lot of effort, and with so many hardware designs you’ll never run out of options.
Try these tricks and enjoy your view a little more this spring.
